GLP Update

Does Air Particulate Matter?

Who we are:
We are an Advanced Placement Environmental Science class at La Jolla High School located near San Diego in California.

Who you are:
You are any science student currently studying or interested in air particulate matter.

What you need:
In addition to Internet access, you will need a few minor supplies: string, 12 3x5 cards, and vaseline.

When:
This project will be open 24/7.  We are creating a database that will always be available.

Where:
This projects home base is in La Jolla, California.  Within the site there are instructions on how to perform the simple procedure to acquire air particulate data.  Student participants can communicate with each other through the site blog.

Why:
This project will allow you to quantify air particulate matter in your area and compare it to other locations around the world that has been acquired in the same manner by other students.  You will also research the effects of air particulate matter on both plants and humans.

How:
This project uses Google Docs to store and view data.  You may upload your information at any time.  Uploading instructions are available.  Previous stored data is always available for comparison.  At the end of the project there are analysis questions that have students search for causes of particulate matter and effects on plant and human health.

  1. Hi Aaron, great work on your GLP text content. I like how your format is concise and simple, yet it contains plenty of information. I noticed that in the “When” section, the project is open 24/7 and there is no start/end date. A possible suggestion would be to mention the start date for potential classes to know when to begin. In the “What you need” section for resources, another suggestion would be to mention the student and teacher competency level in using Google Docs for the GLP.
Overall, your GLP looks great and I am curious to see the results from your project.

  2. Hi Aaron, glad you had a chance to read my first comments...Great information on your GLP site content. Some suggestions would be to write everything in present tense ( "will" to is/are). Be more specific to what technology tools will be needed in order to fully participate. Do they need special training or need access to web account...More details about the project is needed to explain what it is all about . What are the students going to do and how will they collaborate with students around the country? What other alternatives can be used to connect with other than Google Docs.? Your project sounds very interesting. I hope this information helps a bit.
